About the Campaign

On July 26, 2017 President Trump attacked an estimated 15,000 patriotic transgender Americans who serve in our military and who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe and free. Transgender people—like all Americans—should be judged for their qualifications, nothing more, nothing less.

There’s no place for discrimination in the military: it’s unpatriotic and will harm our military and our country.

President Trump’s false claims about “disruption” and “tremendous medical costs” have been thoroughly debunked and are a subterfuge for discrimination. The Defense Department has already concluded that transgender service members do not harm unit cohesion and allowing transgender troops to fulfill their duty will have no effect on military readiness or military budgets.

Our veterans and military deserve better. Help us fight against this vicious attack on dignity and equality. Tell President Trump this attack on transgender troops will not stand!

SPART*A is a nonpartisan, inclusive, member-based organization that is committed to providing support and ensuring equal opportunities, benefits, and rights for all LGBT servicemembers and veterans and their families.

All SPART*A members are committed to educating key stakeholders and the public about issues that impact LGBT servicemembers, veterans and their families in order to continue accomplishing our mission of strengthening the culture of inclusion and diversity within the United States military.

What We’re Fighting For

How We Will Win

Spread Truth about Trans Troops

False claims about “disruption” and “tremendous medical costs” have been thoroughly debunked and are a subterfuge for discrimination. The facts must be shared so that Americans understand that every patriotic American who is qualified should be able to serve.

Spread these facts on social media:

  • Banning transgender troops hurts preparedness: At a time when only 0.4% of the U.S. population serves in uniform, removing highly trained, well-qualified, and deeply committed service members does nothing to increase readiness — in fact, it does the opposite.
  • Banning transgender troops is un-American: Like their fellow service members, transgender service members have committed their lives to serving, and the armed services have invested tremendously in training them. Ending their careers simply because of who they are is an appalling attack on our military and on our nation’s values.
  • Banning transgender troops does not save money: A 2016 study by the Rand Corporation projected that transition-related healthcare spending would make up only 0.005–0.017% of the Defense Department’s health care budget.
  • Banning and removing transgender troops hurts unit cohesion: We have qualified and trained transgender service members already in place. They are serving with their units and commanding officers, and serving well.

Tell President Trump to protect trans troops!

President Trump just attacked an estimated 15,000 patriotic transgender Americans who serve in our military and who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe and free. Transgender people—like all Americans—should be judged for their qualifications, nothing more, nothing less.

Send emails and make phone calls to President Trump and Secretary of Defense James Mattis to tell them this attack on transgender troops will not stand.
