DownDogs and Democracy is Namaste in Action.

Yoga classes are often ended with collectively saying “Namaste.” When we utter this term with respect and reverence, it is a way to see, acknowledge and honor the reality of others. It is a term from the sacred ancient Indian language of Sanskrit and speaks to the collective oneness and connection that we all share.

When we consider that Namaste has this deep and meaningful essence, there’s no way that Yoga doesn’t go hand-in-hand with activism and social justice. It is imperative as folks who practice yoga to see, acknowledge, and advocate for equity and safety for all beings.

Join Kady of Big Booty Yoga for an all-levels accessible virtual yoga class followed by advocacy about sensible gun solutions & expanding background checks.

Pass Background Check Legislation Immediately

Background checks are the foundation of any comprehensive gun violence prevention strategy. Current federal law requires that background checks be conducted whenever a person attempts to buy a gun from a licensed gun dealer. This is to ensure that the buyer is not legally prohibited from having the gun. Since federal law began requiring these background checks in 1994, over 3.5 million sales to prohibited purchasers have been blocked.

93 percent of American voters support requiring background checks on all gun sales, including 89 percent of Republicans and 89 percent of gun owners.
