About the Organization

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

In partnership with Ad Council, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention developed Seize the Awkward, a campaign to lead and initiate conversations around mental health. Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.

Our Goal

End the Stigma Around Mental Health

It’s hard to know what to say to someone who is struggling with depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues. But reaching out when you’re feeling down or when you see a friend struggling can make a huge difference. Help encourage others to reach out and support friends who may be struggling with their mental health by bringing Seize the Awkward to your community.
